La trasformazione di questa XLH 883 del 1998 è nata quasi per gioco, quando un conoscente mi ha chiesto di cambiare il fanale posteriore originale con un Lucas. Era Settembre dell'anno scorso. Oggi, ad un anno di distanza il conoscente si è trasformato in un caro amico e la sua vecchia Sportster si è traformata in un chopperino niente male. Lavoretti semplici, modesti, fatti poco alla volta, tra una battuta e l'altra, con fiducia e stima reciproca che crescevano ogni giorno insieme all'entusiasmo di traformare un ferro vecchio e renderlo originale ed unico, sempre di più. Così in questo giro di lavori, alla sella Solo con attacchi, molle e sottosella fatti a mano da Crazyoils, si sono aggiunti gli ammortizzatori posteriori da 12 pollici completamente coperti e cromati e un kit di molle Progressive sull'avantreno ricoperto da due bei soffietti in gomma. Fin qui nulla di speciale fintanto che il mio amico non ha adocchiato in un angolino su uno scaffale il mio ape hanger. "Lo voglio" mi ha detto, ed io ho storto il naso. Sono anni che medito di montarlo sul mio Shovel e non ho ancora trovato il tempo di farlo. Forse doveva andare così. Forse quel manubrio alto e cromato era stufo di stare su uno scaffale e si è cercato un nuovo proprietario. Fatto sta che la Sportster del mio amico si sta trasformando a poco a poco in un bellissimo chopperino.

I like how things go sometimes. The adventure of this 1998 XLH 883 started exactly a year ago when a customer asked me to replace the OEM rear light with a Lucas one. A year later that customer is now a dear friend and his old little Sporty is becoming a nice little chopper. Honest and simple, done the old way, no fancy stuff. Just lot of passion and laughs. This time we added a couple of full chrome cover 12" rear shocks and a set of Progessive suspension in the front end together with a pair of black rubber boots. The solo seat mount, springs and underseat are handmade by Crazyoils. And then my friend saw my old ape hanger on a shelf. "I want it" he said. "No way" I replied. I always wanted to place it on my Shovelhead but never really had time to do it. Well, I guess it had to go in a different way. Maybe the old tall handlebar was sick and tired of hanging on a shelf. He needed a new owner and a new bike to be able to face the wind again and that's what it got. So the once old little Sportster is now becocoming a really neat chopper and the story goes on.
