Due anni fa sono andato con la mia famiglia a trovare Jeff Decker nella sua nuova casa a Springville. Si era trasferito da poco e la ristrutturazione di una delle più vecchie case della città non era ancora finita. Lui era di ritorno da Sturgis e sua moglie Kelly ci intrattenuto mostrandoci alcune chicche che pubblicherò in questo e nei post a venire.

Two years ago I went to visit Jeff Decker in his new house in Springville. He just moved in one of the oldest houses in town so the restoration was not complete yet. Jeff was on his way back from Sturgis but his wife Kelly had been great showing us around. Today and in the next days I'll post some nevere before seen pics of Jeff's house and private collection.
L'artista al lavoro. Il famoso pittore David Uhl ha ritratto Jeff Decker all'opera. Il quadro è appeso sopra il caminetto in bella mostra in un soggiorno che profuma di legno vecchio ed olio di motori.

The artist at work. Famous painter David Uhl has pictured Jeff Decker while working at one of his famous sculptures. The painting is hanging over a fireplace in a nice and warm living room that smells of old wood and motor oil.
Ai due lati si resta a bocca aperta ammirando due esemplari meravigliosi di ciò che è stato l'esordio del motociclismo americano. Una Cyclone Racer forse del 1914 ed una Excelsior Racer del '13. Entrambe 1000 di cilindrata che per quell'epoca era un'enormità.

At the two sides you can admire two of the best racers that created the history of the American motorcycle heritage and tradition. A Cyclone maybe from 1914 and an Excelsior of the same period. Both should be 1000cc of displacement which is a lot for that time.
Ogni stanza è piena di mezzi ed oggetti che trasudano storia. E' meglio che entrare in un museo. La casa di Jeff è un luogo sacro dove ammirare in silenzio cose senza tempo che difficilmente potrete vedere altrove. Jeff è un appassionato collezionista oltre che artista eclettico. Peccato avere avuto poco tempo a disposizione, ma l'invito dei Decker a ritornare è aperto. Intanto colgo l'occasione per salutarli e ringraziarli sempre per la loro disponibilità.

Every room is full of vehicles and objects that talk about history. It's better than going into a museum. Jeff's house is a sacred place where you silently admire unique things that you'll never see anywhere else. Jeff is a passionate collector and an icredibly talented artist. Too bad we couldn't stay longer. But the Deckers invited me to go back to visit again whenever I can. In the mean time I take the occasion to thank Jeff and Kelly for their time and kindness.
