1983 BMW CRAZYOILS SPECIAL - CI SIAMO QUASI / ALMOST THERE

Ora è solo questione di ritocchi. Piccole cose qua e là. Aggiustamenti. Ho trovato i manicotti per collegare i carburatori ai cilindri. Super. Ho verniciato a polvere il faro per mettere in risalto la ghiera cromata, lo strumento e le staffe. Ho rimontato i collettori ed ho aggiunto due terminali Megaton. Poca spesa, tanta resa. Bende nere sui collettori per restare in tema con la moto. Quasi ultimato l'impianto elettrico. Ormai ci siamo.

Now it's time for minor details, few little changes here and there. I found the right manifolds for the carbs. Sweet. I had the headlight powdercoated so that it brings more attention to the rim, the speedo and the brackets. I put back the exhaust system after polishing it. I added a set of Megatone mufflers and black Thermotech wraps. The electrical wiring is almost done. Still a few more days of work but I'm almost there.

Ritirata oggi la scocca sellata a regola d'arte. Un vero gioiellino. Volutamente però lascio le foto in bianco e nero e vi lascio immaginare le infinite possibilità di abbinamenti colore. La sella biposto, è stata rigorosamente rivestita in vera pelle. Dopo avere studiato quale fosse il miglior stile e le finiture, l'ho fatta realizzare da un sellaio di fiducia. Nel più tradizionale stile Racer la sella abbottonata resta un classico intramontabile. Non vedo l'ora di portare il tutto dal carrozziere per la verniciatura finale che sarà una sorpresa, come del resto, l'intera moto, una volta ultimata. Sono molto curioso, ma allo stesso tempo già entusiasta. Ormai manca pochissimo.

Today I got back the seat that has been padded and covered with real leather. It's a beauty. I meant to keep the pics in black and white so you can just imagine how many color combinations can be made. I studied the style, the stitching and all the details and then I decided to go for the classic Racer style. I can't wait to see how it matches with the paint job. It's going to be really interesting. I'm very curious about it even if I'm already excited. A few more days and we'll see the final result. Awesome.

1983 BMW R80RT CRAZYOILS SPECIAL - FARO / HEADLIGHT

Ogni piccolo pezzo richiede continue modifiche. Ed il tempo trascorre inesorabile ma non è una priorità. Le staffe di attacco del faro, il faro stesso, il supporto per lo strumento, viti e guarnizioni. E poi la verniciatura. Ma alla fine è il risultato che conta. Può piacere o non piacere, ma tutto deve essere obiettivamente costruito a regola d'arte e amalgamarsi perfettamente nel contesto e nel tema del progetto.

Every little part requires attention. And timing is not a priority. The final result is. The headlight brackets, the headlamp itself, the instrument and its support, the nuts and bolts. Nothing is left untouched. You may like it or not, but at the end the whole bike has to be built to perfection and every single part has to fit and match with the entire project. This is what custom bike building is all about.

MOTO GUZZI CALIFORNIA SPECIAL & WESTERNBULL

Avevo già pubblicato questa bella Moto Guzzi California Special in passato, ma come spesso accade, non si finisce mai di abbellire la propria moto. In questo caso in aggiunta a selle e borse in cuoio prodotte su misura da Westernbull, ho montato una coppia di manopole speciali fatte rivestire apposta dai mitici ragazzi di Pisa. Il risultato mi piace molto. Non sembra, ma per la manopola sinistra ci sono un paio d'ore di lavorazione al tornio per creare un adattatore speciale dal pieno di alluminio. E pare che le modifiche non siano ancora finite...

I already posted this nice Moto Guzzi California Special in the past. As it happens in most cases, a biker's work is never done. In the past I had my friends at Westernbull create a very special set of saddlebags and leather seats for this bike. Now I added a set of leather grips which I think match perfectly with the rest of the bike. Behind the simple appearance, there are a couple of hours of work on the lathe machine to create a custom spacer for the left grip. Hard work, nice result. And it's not done yet. More to come...

Su Low Ride di questo mese un bel servizio, il secondo peraltro, sulla mitica "Bettina", la XL883R del 2007 di Paolo di Duecilindri Blog. Chi mi segue da un po' si ricorderà tutte le modifiche che ho apportato su questo mezzo per renderlo perfetto secondo i desideri del suo proprietario. Duecilindriblog è forse il blog per soli appassionati di Sportster più seguito in Italia, grazie alla passione ed all'entusiasmo travolgente di Paolo. Complimenti, vai così!

On this month's Issue of Low Ride Magazine there's a good piece about the 2007 XL883R of Paolo of Duecilindri blog. He has been a friend of Crazyoils since the beginning and most of the mods on the bike have been done by me. Also he's got a great passion for Sportsters and his blog is one of the most popular in Italy. Way to go, pal!

BMW R80CRAZYOILS SPECIAL UPDATE

Finalmente ci siamo. Dopo aver completamente ricostruito il telaio posteriore, più stretto per stare all'interno della scocca Racer, e con speciali supporti antivibranti per supportarla, ora sono pronto per la verniciatura. Oggi smonto tutto. Porto telaio e staffe a verniciare, i parafanghi in alluminio a lucidare a specchio e la scocca da sellare. Intanto proseguirò con le parti che mancano e l'impianto elettrico e per finire la verniciatura della scocca. Per Natale la mettiamo sotto l'albero.

Finally I can see the light. After rebuilding the entire rear frame to fit under the Racer seat and adding some special rubber mounts to support it, now I'm ready for the next step. Today I'm going to disassemble everything, take the metal parts to get powdercoated, take the alu fenders to get mirror polished and the seat to be covered with foam and leather. In the meantime I'll add the other missing parts and do all the electrical wiring and then I'll be ready to get the tank painted. Hopefully I'll put the bike under the Xmas tree.
