TENDICINGHIA SPORTSTER - SPORTSTER BELT TENSIONER

Mi sono trovato nella situazione di dover costruire un tendicinghia per lo Sportster del mio amico Paolo per risolvere il problema di sfregamento della sua cinghia dovuto alla modifica degli ammortizzatori posteriori. Questo è il risultato molto grezzo ma definitivo. All'apparenza un pezzo di ferro sagomato e forato. Ma ci sono alcuni dettagli studiati appositamente per ottenere le massime prestazioni con il minimo sforzo. La cinghia scorre su cinque cuscinetti a sfera sigillati SKF 608. Nati per i motori elettrici questi cuscinetti possono sopportare senza problemi migliaia di giri al minuto, quindi addirittura sovradimensionati per il lavoro che devono svolgere. Montati su un perno filettato possono essere regolati su sei posizioni lungo il braccio della staffa, e quindi si può decidere la tensione più opportuna sia in base al tendicinghia sia tramite i registri del forcellone. La staffa è montata solidalmente al forcellone posteriore e a sua volta è regolabile nella sua inclinazione grazie ad una vite posta nel mezzo che micrometricamente stabilisce un ulteriore tensionamento della cinghia. Alta tecnologia o buon senso?

I recently had to build a belt tensioner for the Sportster of my friend Paolo. The pics show the raw but devinitive version of it. It looks very simple and actually it is. The belt will slide over five SKF 608 electric engine sealed ball bearings. These can be positioned in six different positions to find the best setting and tension for the belt. Moreover there is a small screw in the middle of the bracket that allows a more precise inclination and consequently an even better belt tension. High tech or just common sense?

FXCWC SOFTAIL ROCKER - FINAL CHAPTER

Finalmente siamo giunti al capitolo finale, per il momento, di questa modifica alla FXCWC durata anche troppo tempo. Ma se si desiderano le cose belle bisogna saper aspettare, perchè il risultato finale sarà sicuramente gratificante. I parafanghi e la sella Heartland le conferiscono un nuovo look, ma soprattutto l'occhio cade sui pezzi fatti a mano da Crazyoils: la sella passeggero a sgancio rapido, la staffa per la esclusiva borsa Westernbull, anche questa a sgancio rapido, ed il porta targa laterale cromato, di cui abbiamo già parlato in passato. Il risultato finale è una special bike su base Softail Rocker di tutto rispetto, e nonostante sia stata abbassata di 2" davanti e dietro, il T-Bar da 8" la rende estremamente fluida nella guida. Confesso che provo un po' di invidia per il suo proprietario...

This is the final chapter for the moment for this FXCWC modification. It took a while but it was worth it. You need to have patience to get the best things. Heartland fenders and seat surely changed the look of the bike, but the custom parts by Crazyoils really catch the attention. The handmade detachable leather passenger seat, the detachable saddlebag bracket for the exclusive Westernbull solo bag, and the chromed side mounted licence plate bracket are really some state of the art parts that make this Softail Rocker a nice special bike. Moreover even if it has been lowerd 2" in the front and in the back, the 8" T-Bar makes this bike a really nice and smooth ride. I must confess that I envy its owner a bit...

XL883R 2007 - WORK IN PROGRESS

Prima di tutto mi scuso con tutti voi che seguite il mio blog assiduamente per la mia latitanza e manchevolezza nel postare aggiornamenti continui. Tuttavia sono stato molto impegnato sia sul fronte moto che sul fronte familiare e quindi vi ho un po' trascurati. Detto questo, tra le varie moto in lavorazione c'è questo bello Sportsterino XL883R del mio amico Paolo di Duecilindri. Lavoretti semplici, qualche pezzo nero qua e là, ma la cosa che mi ha dato più soddisfazione è che Paolo mi ha richiesto espressamente di avere una piastra paramotore fatta a mano da Crazyoils e questo per me è motivo di orgoglio, rispetto e fiducia. Dando uno sguardo nei dettagli alla sua moto, ormai pronta per essere consegnata, mi sono poi accorto che la cinghia era molle, molto molle, e di conseguenza ho notato che sfregava in più punti, cosa non bella, un po' come incrociare i flussi per i Ghostbusters. Ad ogni modo questo fatto è dovuto a causa del montaggio, non da parte del sottoscritto, di ammortizzatori forse un po' troppo fuori misura, visto che sono quelli dell'XR1200 da trofeo. Peccato che l'XR, come anche le Buell montino un bel tendicinghia per ovviare al problema. E quindi mi sono permesso di far notare la cosa al proprietario rassicurandolo che avrei costruito anche un tendicinghia ad hoc Crazyoils. Potete vedere i dettagli di questa cosa direttamente sul suo blog Duecilindri. Ad ogni modo ci tengo a far notare molto umilmente che non sono in cerca di fama e gloria (beh, forse Gloria). Vorrei solo che i miei amici fossero contenti dei miei lavori e mi applico al meglio perchè questo possa essere possibile. Tutto qua.

First of all I'd like to apologize with everyone of you Crazyoils fans for not being able to update the blog that often. Unfortunately I've been very busy with the bikes and my family lately. But here I am again with something new for ya. I had a chance to work on my friend's Paolo XL883R. Nice little Sporty that needed some black touch here and there. A very easy job. The nice thing is that Paolo asked me to create a special Crazyoils engine guard just for him and that made me very happy and proud. Anyway I was about to give him his bike when I noticed that the final belt was very low, too low. As a matter of fact it was grinding in a few spots. Very bad. So I rang him up and explained the situation. The guy that installed the rear shocks (from a XR1200) probably did not notice or did not know that the poor bike needed a belt tensioner to work properly. Just like XRs and Buells have. So I suggested I could create another special part to solve the problem. You can look at the details on Paolo's blog Duecilindri. I only want to add that I'm not looking for fame and glory. I just want my friends to be happy with their bikes and my works. That's good enough for me. And I'll always do my best to keep up the good work. Period.

Questa settimana comincia in viola, profondo viola. Non so perchè. Una sensazione strana, a metà tra la gioia e l'incertezza. Ma sono certo che il finale sarà sicuramente positivo. Il sole splende, comincia a fare caldo, e ci sono tante cose da fare tra le oscure pareti di Crazyoils. Vedremo cosa ne verrà fuori...

This week will start in purple, deep purple. I don't know why. It's a strange feeling, something in between happiness and uncertainty. But I'm sure the ending will be positive. The sun is shining, it's getting hot, and there are lots of things going on behind the Crazyoils dark walls. We'll see what will come out...

E' appena uscito Coat of Arms dei Sabaton, un gruppo metal che mi ha conquistato col suo ritmo forte ed incalzante tanto quanto i motori delle nostre moto. Può non piacere ma per me spaccano di brutto. Riguardo al video della canzone Hellrider posso solo dire RESPECT.

Coat of Arms by Sabaton has just been released. They are an amazing band that plays as loud as our engines. You may not like them but I think they really kick ass. Regarding the video of the song Hellrider I can only say RESPECT.

CRAZYOILS CUSTOM SEAT MAKING

Questo è un altro dei lati divertenti e creativi di Crazyoils. Passo dopo passo abbiamo inventato e costruito una sella passeggero a sgancio rapido per la Rocker. Da una lastra di ferro abbiamo ricavato la base, poi piegata, saldata, forata e rivettata. A questa si monta la staffa che è stata opportunamente sagomata e verniciata. Alla base poi è stato applicato un profilo in gomma protettivo e la spugna a cellule chiuse ad alta densità in due strati sovrapposti. Una volta incollata è stata modellata per ottenere una linea morbida ed una seduta confortevole. Infine rimontato tutto e fissato con dei piedini in gomma che si appoggiano sul parafango. Manca solo il rivestimento in pelle e qualche piccolo ritocco. Crazyoils è anche questo.

This is another fun and creative aspect of Crazyoils. Step by step here you can see how we invented and created a custom detatchable passenger seat for the Rocker. From a steel plate we created the seat pan, shaped, drilled and welded it. At the same time we molded the seat bracket and painted it black. Then we added a rubber gasket to the seat pan in order to prevent the edge to cut the leather cover. Then we glued two layers of high density neoprene and shaped it and molded it to give it the perfect lines and comfort. The final touch will be a genuine leather cover and a few little details. Crazyoils is also custom seat making.

This is a very simple bracket for a Scout saddlebag by Westernbull. With this bracket the bag will remain as close as possible to the frame without interfere with the rear shock. Compact and stylish, it fits perfectly on this Dyna FXDC, thanks also to the relocation of the rear turn signals that we already posted a couple of days ago.

Ancora una volta un grandissimo spettacolo. Dopo 36 anni di rock'n'roll i KISS riescono sempre a dimostrare di essere una vera e propria macchina da intrattenimento. Semplicemente fantastico.
